I am pretty happy today. I just got a call from my old friend Steve.
I met Steve in AbuDhabi 4 years ago. He had signed up for a kayak building class. We took it slow, we had a blast. His boat turned out perfect. It was hard to find quality wood over there being the desert and all. I was pleased to find out that all the boats, covered with cotton, are still being used and looking great.
The canoe is now located at his house in Texas where it is used cruising the canals in Corpus Christie. His son is now using the surfing kayak and the Greenland kayak is still cruising the Persian Gulf.
To everyone that told me you could not build a serious boat out of pine, there it is....
3 boats still going strong and I say, use what you can find my friends.
I am still a yellow cedar fan though... the smell take me to a higher place....
Here is a picture of Steve dreamin of a buoyant future before his first boat was completed.
